At Helping Hands, we believe shortages of food and life’s basic needs are solvable – but we can’t do it alone! Our volunteers are invaluable. Like us, they are dedicated to meet basic needs, nurture success, and spread change.
Since 2020, Helping Hands has a history of volunteering for their community. Volunteers perform many functions that are vital to our community. Each year, many of our residents offer their time, energy, knowledge and talent by volunteering. What Happens if I'm Late for My Volunteer Shift?
We ask that volunteers arrive 15 minutes prior to the shift start time to allow time for parking and check-in.
We understand that traffic and other circumstances may cause volunteers to be late, but we ask that volunteers plan ahead so they can be on time and ensure maximum productivity and satisfaction during volunteer activities.
What Will I Be Doing?
Helping Hands Family Center volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including:

What Will I Be Doing?
Helping Hands Family Center volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including:
- Sorting and shelfing donated items (we ask that volunteers check the outdoor bins for donations and bring them inside).
- Packaging bulk product into family sized bags
- Help with office work and data entry tasks is also welcome.
- Helping at the Chatham Borough Farmer's Market and other offsite events.
- Help plan for fundraisers
- Collect food and monetary donations at events
Volunteer hours are by appointment only during the following times:
- Monday through Friday: 2:40 pm - 5 pm (mornings available when Stanley Pre-school is closed)
- Saturday: 9 am – 11am / 11:30 am – 1:30 pm / 1:30 pm- 3:30 pm
