Helping Hands, NJ is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, a “neighbors helping neighbors” anti-hunger organization in the Chatham, NJ area. Joann Carroll started HH on her front porch and served families in need from the porch and the back of her SUV in March, 2020 after observing food insecurity was exacerbating the social and economic impact of Covid-19. In 2023, Joann, along with many volunteers established Helping Hands, NJ as a nonprofit corporation with a volunteer count of over 30 people. Our mission is to inspire hope in our communities by providing food to nourish New Jerseyans, while collaborating on long-term solutions to hunger.
Over the years, the expansion to the Helping Hands Family Center at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, assisted HH in distributing food, groceries, hygiene products, diapers, infant care items, senior citizen care items, winter wear, home goods, seasonal clothing, holiday foods, Blessing Bags at Christmas and much more. Today, HH provides support for more than 40 local families and hopes to expand to provide wrap-around services like SNAP outreach, nutrition education, job training, and affordable housing resources. The organization is in search of space in the Chatham area – see (Information on Donated Property for Charitable Organizations).
